Kimbo's quote of the day

Amidst all the cheerfully negative press around Howard's leadership and the fate of the Liberal Party that's swirling around at the moment, one quote has stood out from it all for me, and suprisingly, it's from former Labor leader Kim Beazley.

Speaking of the rows of journalists in the Canberra Press Gallery peering down at an embattled Howard in the chamber, quoth Kimbo:

'"It looked," he said later, "like three rows of crows staring down at a dead sheep."'

I LURVE IT!

While I'm enjoying every minute of seeing JH squirm, I'm a little hesitant to gloat too overtly. I'm expecting a disaster (ie 'security' or 'terrorism' issue) at any time, quite possibly of the government's creation. At least, that is what the Liberals must be praying fervently to their gods for right now.

Richard, Howard has been the comeback king at each election, so thus I'm hesitant. He is a slippery eel, for sure. I am hopeful, though, that this is the last stand. Did you see the front page of the Herald Sun? You know when that rag has written him off that it must be getting to the end of the road. Heck, we might even have Andrew Bolt waving a red flag with hammer and sickle.

Who'd have thought Kimmy had it in him? We have newfound respect for the man - bless his belly. We're pro-gloating in general just so long as Costello doesn't slip up & away while we're feasting on Howy.

The streets of old Fitzroy

I've lived in Fitzroy for 14 years, and long before I moved here spent some formative moment in its pubs and terrace houses. I have an unpublished novel that set's in Fitzroy in the 1940s (originally it was set in the 1950s but I've realised it was the wrong period). I love this suburb, even as it changes before my eyes, which is why I love articles and photographs and stories of its past.   From the Herald-Sun , here's a series of images of the old inner city slums that once characterised much of Fitzroy. And from The Age just yesterday, here's an article about a photographer who was documenting the vanishing post-war Fitzroy culture in 1973-74.  Happy reading.
